Traffic in internet marketing terms means visitors and a website needs visitors in order to sell its products.

Affiliate marketing is a method of marketing where a website agrees to promote another website’s products for a commission. Is this confusing? Let’s run an example!

Website A wants to get more visitors to their website. They set up an affiliate marketing campaign and website B signs up and agrees to promote website A’s products. When a visitor comes to website B, they see some information on a product that is of interest to them. When they click on this, they are sent directly to website A. The use of software tells website A that the visitor has come from website B. If that visitor makes a purchase, website B will be paid commission.

Another form of affiliate marketing is Google’s Adsense program. When you visit some websites you will see small Google ads on the pages. If you click on one of these ads, the website owner will be paid commission by Google.

The big advantage to Affiliate Marketing is that you don’t have customers. You are simply referring visitors to other websites in return for commission. You do not have to offer customer service or deal with stock issues etc.
