Title: Tips On Running Your Home-Based Business!

Author: Fitzgerald Elliott

Article:

A home-based business does not have to take-up all of your time at first. You can have your home-based business under flexible working hours. You can do it during your spare time, or before and after your working hours. By starting out small, and on a part time basis, you are assured of your finances, even if the business does not pick up and make money for you right away. A business takes time to mature.

Every business is a risk, and your home-based business is no different. The advantage of setting up a home-based business, is you can do it on a shoestring budget. Thus, making the risk involved much lesser.

While a home-based business can be rewarding financially, it can also bring challenges and frustrations to you as a businessman.

A home-based businessman may have more time on his hands, but he faces the task of making sure his business earns, or else he loses his financial security. Some home-based businesses do not take off immediately, and the rewards can only be reaped after a certain period of time.

Working or doing business at home can be lonely for the home-based worker, who could find it strange to be working alone, after several years of working in an office with other people.

How to choose the right home-based business to get into?

Make a list of your skills and talents, as well as your experiences either at work or in business. Create at list of at least ten business ideas you are interested in, and cross this with your talent and skills list. You will have a good idea of what business is ideal for you, given your talent and experience. Do research on the marketing possibilities of the business ideas you have chosen. A good business idea must be able to respond to, or create a market need. Must be able to last for a long time, even if it is highly competitive. And you must have an edge over the others.

When choosing a business venture, consider whether you have the financial capacity to operate and maintain the business, before it gives you profit. Most business do not automatically become money earners, and you the owners have to sacrifice time and financial resources, to help the business grow.

It is also best to choose a business venture that would match to your personal situation. If you have children in the house and your prime consideration in starting a home based business is to be with your kids, then choose a business that would not take you out of the house. It is also best to brief family members on the requirements of the home-based business, so they would know how to behave once the business starts.

Running you own home-based business is a different ball game from your office work. You have to keep yourself properly motivated and confident, because you do not have a boss to see things are being done well. You have to be a critical of your methods and your schedule, to make a home business work.

Strains of commuter life highlighted by survey 08/11/2006 - 19:39:18

The scourge of commuting to work, isolation from relations and difficulties finding school places are problems many young families face each day, a survey revealed today.

A new review has displayed the toll on many young families, now known as outer-ring commuters, who are forced to move out of Dublin due to the spiralling house prices.

The survey by information solutions company Experian details that many young married couples are facing long commutes, isolation from extended families and pressure to find places in school for their children.

Lorcan Lynch, a director with Experian, said: "Life in Ireland has changed significantly over the last 10 years with the emergence of several new social groups and trends."

In drawing a profile of the outer-ring commuters the company examined the populations of Kildare, Louth and Meath.

Mr Lynch said: "Outer-ring commuters have found that the pay-off for living in a larger house is having less time to enjoy it as they spend long hours commuting to and from work. These people are extremely house proud and spend most of their disposable income on home improvements."

In all counties, Outer-ring commuters are heavily dependent on private transport because public transport infrastructure has not kept pace with the major changes in our population over the last 10 to 15 years. "The competition for school places in these burgeoning towns also highlights the need for investment in primary and secondary educational infrastructure.”

The survey found Kildare and Meath have a large number of outer-ring commuters, and Co Louth is beginning to experience the same due to improved transport infrastructure.

Experian found the influx of new residents has not always resulted in a corresponding boom for local businesses as many commuters prefer to shop at out-of-town retail parks.

Mr Lynch said a change in social habits was also noted with many commuters tending to consume alcohol at home with friends rather than visiting pubs or clubs. “

This trend tends to support recent figures, which show a reduction in the amount of alcohol consumed per capita in Ireland,” he said. Experian said it drew up the profile through its consumer segmentation system, which uses sets of information to divide the country’s population into 11 distinct groups and 40 consumer types.

Title: Home Business & Work At Home Scams

Author: Aidan James

Work at home scams have been with us since commerce but many con artists now use the ever growing reach of email and the web to get more and more victims. Have we not we all seen those spam emails and classified advertisements that try to sell us our dream lifestyles? Why for just a small investment and a little of our time, we can have it all. Most though not all are rubbish. There are some very genuine ways of working at home, the trick is knowing how to spot the scams.

You know that feeling you get - "this sounds too good to be true"? Well that gut instinct is usually absolutely correct!
Often, home business scams share some common characteristics such as their promises of mega profits for very little effort and in very little time, claims like "it's so easy you'll be up and running in no time", "no experience required" and the like. Often the promo material has testimonials from fictitious individuals and that favourite ploy, "We can only fully let you in on this excellent home business opportunity after you register, oh by the way, the price goes up tomorrow".

Some really old hat scams are still being touted and they are still catching out innocent or desperate people looking for a break in life. Be extremely cautious of work at home plans such as:

Assembly Work at Home - A real classic this one. Spend some money on materials to assemble into gift items or toys with great profits on selling the now completed pieces back to the promoter, after all he's paying for your assembly work. Unfortunately the promoter says your work is not up to their standards and won't pay for the assembled toys. Now you're left with a bunch of stuff that nobody really wants and there is no way to get your money back.

Medical Claims Processing - You'll hear that many medical practices need help to process their claims work and for just a little cash right now (there it is again...) you can buy the software which does all that processing and allows you to offer your freelance processing service. Why you're now a 'certified' claims expert with some fancy software, all you need is to get some medical practice to use your services. That's when you find they are perfectly happy doing their own processing.

Envelope Stuffing - You'll most likely find yourself deluged with offers of more work at home schemes all of which need just a little cash to get started right now! You'll also get the detailed instructions on how to place ads about envelope stuffing and make money by performing the same scam on others!

Avoid these work at home scams like the plague and pay only when you know what you're getting. Look for money back guarantees like those offered by Clickbank. The genuine home business promoters will tell you exactly what you're paying for and certainly there are some excellent guides to home businesses available there. Try them, I've only ever asked for one refund and that was on some faulty software, the home business guides I've bought have been very informative and great value, even if a little bit hyped, guess I'll put that down to every marketer's habits!

This is a very interesting article on UK Work at Home Mums and the income they are generating. It shows it can be done. Enjoy it!

More than a third (34%) of new and expectant mums look to set up their own business from home to combine child care and income generationBritain’s new mums have emerged as an entrepreneurial force to be reckoned with, as a new report reveals that more than one-in-three (34%) of these ‘mumtrepreneurs’ are looking at starting their own business from home, enabling them to combine child care with developing a steady income stream.

The survey, commissioned by AXA Protection among 1,354 new and expectant mums, found that on average, those polled are generating £467.91 in earnings per month from home-based business ventures, equivalent to £5,614 a year.In addition, more than a third (34%) of the women polled say they currently work from home or are looking to work from home, spending an average of 18.4 hours a week on these money making activities, equivalent to around 2.5 days in an average 9am – 5pm office environment. And this is just the tip of the iceberg, with an additional 21% of women polled saying they are actively considering retraining or using existing craft based skills to earn money from home, with 10% saying they would consider re-training or using existing heath / holistic therapy skills to earn an income while working from home. In addition, around 8% are considering looking after other people’s children in return for payment and 4% said they would consider retraining or using existing sports based skills (e.g. pilates or yoga) to earn an income from home, with 25% saying they would consider returning to their previous job if they could work remotely from a home office.“

It is interesting to see how many new and expectant mothers are looking to start their own businesses from home and also the level of contribution that they are currently making to family incomes through home-working activities,” states Iain Mallon Head of AXA Protection .“By undertaking this activity, these entrepreneurial mothers are making a significant contribution to both the economy and their family’s financial wellbeing. “While clearly good news, we would encourage families to ensure they have the necessary income and critical illness policies in place to protect the income generated by these home entrepreneurs. While many companies will provide life insurance or death in service benefits for their staff, entrepreneurs and the self-employed are reliant on providing these themselves and as mothers contributions to the family income become increasingly key, so ensuring that the right protection plans are in place to safeguard this income becomes ever more important.”

Among the least popular money generating schemes was retraining / using skills like accountancy or business consultancy to earn money from home (1.9%), and using retail skills (e.g. buying and selling goods on eBay or developing a mail order business), selected by 1.4% of those women surveyed.Needing the money was cited by more than one-in-four (26%) of the new and expectant mothers questioned as the reason either working from home or considering doing this, with a further 20% stating they don’t want to give up their career but needed to combine work with child care. A futher 9% of those questioned said they had always wanted to start their own business from home and 8% said they were motivated by the high cost of child care or lack of child care places, making it imperative that they have to work from home.
